Dynamite Resurrects 80-Page Giants with Red Sonja, Vampirella
October 19, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Dynamite Entertainment announces a brand-new line of comics packed with reading for an affordable price, with Vampirella and Red Sonja leading the way in the first two 80-Page Giants of the new year!
The She-Devil With a Sword slashes into her first overflowing 80-Page Giant featuring four fabulous stories. Readers can check out the tale “Dragons” from 2009’s Red Sonja Annual #2, written by Christos Gage (Amazing Spider-Man) and drawn by legendary artist Pablo Marcos. Another gorgeous short story, “Seeing Red,” from Red Sonja: Black, White and Red #1 (2021) is included, by Kurt Busiek (Avengers, Astro City) and Benjamin Dewey. The book is rounded out with two full-length epics from Sonja’s original Dynamite series. Ron Marz and Lee Moder’s tale from Red Sonja #30 and Eric Trautmann and Patrick Berkenkotter’s from Red Sonja #60, from 2008 and 2011 respectively.
For the first-ever Vampirella 80-Page Giant, it includes adventures from nearly five decades apart. One of the most legendary stories in the character’s history is “Death’s Dark Angel” by the definitive creative team of her early era, Archie Goodwin and José González, which was originally published in Vampirella #12 (1971). Another industry-shaking short is “The New European” by Alan Moore (Watchmen) and Gary Frank (Superman, Doomsday Clock), published in 1997, marking the 100th anniversary of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Then readers can taste-test the opening acts of two revered runs on the character: the first issue from the 2014 series by Nancy Collins and Patrick Berkenkotter, and the 2019 kickoff of Christopher Priest’s still-ongoing tenure alongside artist Ergün Gündüz.
Both books feature original covers by Roberto Castro, and are also available with a “retro” styling with inset snapshots of some of the included epics.
